Our History

The MI Network has a rich history of breaking barriers and building success with some of the largest Financial Institutions as sponsors. Our members range from entry level associates to executives. It’s our relationships that keep us going and we have no plans to stop building them now.

Our Founders

Constance 0. Garretson joined the Prudential in 1951. She received wide recognition in 1966 when she became the first African-American female to earn the Chartered Life Underwriter designation from the American College. In 1977, she was named Director of Prudential’s Public Affairs Department, and ended her career as Director of Contributions and Secretary of the Prudential Foundation. Her expert leadership and keen insight were instrumental in determining the direction of the organization and setting the pace for its tremendous growth. We memorialize her at our signature awards ceremony and fundraiser.

Constance, as well as all our founders, worked tirelessly to make a difference. We appreciate all they’ve done to build this organization and pledge to work diligently to continue their legacy.

We pay tribute to all of our MI Founders:
Constance O. Garretson Linda Talia Ferro
Joyce Colon-Henderson Stanley Grayson
Irvin K. Culpepper Marian Marable
Theodore Demeritte Alan Pinado
Ollen Hinnant Robert Randall
Sonia Ingram Lloyd Reed

Special Recognition:

Wilma Brady-Ellis conceived, promoted and organized our first career conference in 1976.  Her concept worked so well, it remains the foundation for MI career conferences, our signature event.  MI’s history includes 33 extraordinary national conferences.  We are eternally grateful Wilma!
